In the vast world of mechanical processing, CNC machining and sheet metal processing are two common and important technological means, and there are many significant differences between them.

In terms of processing objects, the objects of CNC machining are more extensive. It can process various metal and non-metal materials, such as steel, aluminum, plastics, wood, etc., and is able to manufacture parts with complex shapes and extremely high precision requirements. Whether it's mechanical parts with fine internal structures or uniquely shaped sculptural models, CNC can turn designs into physical objects by virtue of its precise digital control capabilities. Sheet metal processing, on the other hand, mainly targets thin metal sheet materials, usually metal sheets with a thickness of less than 6 millimeters, such as cold-rolled sheets, galvanized sheets, aluminum sheets, etc., and is mainly used to manufacture various structural parts like metal enclosures, cabinets, brackets. For example, products such as computer cases and distribution boxes are mostly completed through sheet metal processing.

There are obvious differences in processing principles and techniques. CNC machining is based on computer numerical control technology. Through pre-written programs, it precisely controls the movement trajectories of cutting tools on multiple axes such as X, Y, and Z, as well as parameters like cutting speed and feed rate, and conducts various machining operations such as milling, drilling, boring, and tapping on materials. It can achieve complex three-dimensional processing, and the machining accuracy can reach the micron level or even smaller. Sheet metal processing mainly involves process links such as blanking, bending, welding, and surface treatment. Blanking can use shearing machines, laser cutting, CNC punching machines, etc. to cut the sheets into the required shapes; bending uses bending machines to fold the sheets into specific angles; welding is used to connect multiple sheet metal parts; surface treatment such as painting, electroplating, etc. is used to improve the appearance and corrosion resistance of products.

The equipment configurations are also completely different. CNC machining equipment usually consists of the machine tool body, the numerical control system, the drive device, the tool system, etc. The machine tool body provides a stable processing platform, the numerical control system is its core, responsible for analyzing and executing program instructions, the drive device controls the movement of cutting tools and worktables, and the tool system is equipped with a variety of tools according to different processing needs. Sheet metal processing equipment includes shearing machines, bending machines, laser cutting machines, CNC punching machines, welding equipment, painting equipment, etc., and each kind of equipment plays a role in specific links of sheet metal processing.
